Idyllic Islands for New Year's Eve

November 05, 2013 08.48 PM

For those so often disappointed in their New Years’ Eve festivities, this year we suggest a hiatus from Rio or St. Barth in lieu of these more exclusive destinations that may put the fireworks back into your Silvester countdown. For those that can’t imagine being away from the Caribbean, Anguilla is poised to be the latest it-destination as Napa’s expanding Auberge Resorts reopens Malliouhana Hotel in early-2014 " in the meantime Anacaona will be debuting its new spa in time for New Year’s Eve bookings. A bit more removed is Mustique known for its posh British flair in the West Indies. It’s been an under-the-radar hotspot the last few years for Hollywood-types that prefer its private villas or Firefly Hotel with homemade toiletries and glamorous restaurant overlooking Britannia Bay as tree frogs chirp from above.

While some will wait for the reopening of Hotel Bora Bora by Aman Resorts, Fiji’s Laucala Island was once owned by Malcolm Forbes and offers an active island oasis with working plantation and beach bar of amped billionaires fueled in part by its current Red Bull-owner. Further away, the Oetker Collection that owns Hotel du Cap is marking its first year as operator of Fregate Island in the Seychelles while Como Hotels debuts Maalifushi in one of the most communal islands of the southern Maldives that’s currently still available for prime holiday bookings.
